Two acclaimed plays to be staged today

Today, this weekend, Dhaka audience can plan to enjoy two much acclaimed plays at two prominent venues of the capital. Theatre troupe BotTala will stage its ninth production ‘Crutcher Colonel’, an adaptation of eminent novelist Shahaduzzaman’s novel with the same title, at 7pm at the Mahila Samiti, while ‘Girgiti’ by the troupe Granthik Natyagoshthi  will be staged at 6:30pm at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital.  

Directed by Mohammad Ali Haider and dramatised by Soumya Sarkar and Samina Luthfa Nitra, the play ‘Crutch-er Colonel’ portrays the life of one of the masterminds of the November 7 coup Colonel Taher, who was executed in 1976. The probable cast of the play includes, Imran Khan Munna, Evan Riaz, Luthfa, Ruma, Toufique Hasan Bhuiyan, Nafij Bindu and Abdur Rahim. Imran Khan Munna designed the stage, while Khalid Mahmud Sejan set the stage lighting and Pintu Ghosh composed music.

On the other hand, the play Girgiti’ is a satirical play. Girgiti is one kind of Lizards, who have the ability to change the colour. Its characteristic, position, movement, and even voices are mysterious. Certain people also posses the characteristic of Girgiti. The play revolves around a middle class family. In the course of events, they are seen to have differing ambitions while people like iguana serve to widen the margin in their difference. Directed by Matiur Rahman Rana, the play stars Kaysarul Islam, Faisal Alam, Ripon, Nazma Akter, Shaon and others.
