10 shot in AL factional clash

UNB, Noakhali

At least 10 people including a child received bullet injuries during a clash between local Awami League and Jubo League men over establishing supremacy in Khalifarhat area of Sadar upazila on Tuesday.

The bullet wounded Solaiman, 28, Sumon, 23, Jasim, 45, Ohid Ulla, 35, Sabuj, 23, Masud, 35, Monir Ahmed, 55, Sabuj, 23, Jaker, 30, and Shanto, 12, were admitted to the sadar hospital.

Witnesses said supporters of Sadar upazila AL leader Shipon and Jubo League leader Jahir locked into a clash over previous enmity at Khalifarhat bazar.

At one stage, the supporters of Shipon carried out an attack on Jahir’s house with firearms and sharp weapons triggering the clash followed by chase and counter chase between them.

Officer-in-charge of Sudharam Model Police Station Md Anowar Hossain said after being informed about the clash they rushed to the spot and controlled the situation.

Abducted boy found dead

UNB, Cox’s Bazar

Police recovered the body of a minor boy, who was abducted from his residence on Monday, from inside a sack at Matamuhuri Bridge in Chakaria upazila on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Al Wasia, two and half years, son of Shahab Uddin of Sabujbagh area.

Bakhtier Uddin, officer-in-charge of Chakaria Police Station, said a woman, wearing borka, took Wasia away with her alluring him of giving chips on Monday afternoon and since then he remained missing.

Later, Shahab Uddin, informed the matter to police.

Acting on secret information, police recovered the body in the afternoon from near a bridge, kept inside a sack. Police also arrested Munni Akter for her alleged involvement in the murder.

6 gold bars seized in Chuadanga

UNB, Chuadanga

Members of Boarder Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 6 gold bars weighing 700 gram from Nastipur border in Damurhuda upazila yesterday noon.

Imam Hasan, director of Chuadanga BGB-6 Battalion, said being tipped off over gold smuggling to India, a team of BGB conducted a drive along main border pillar no 80 and challenged a young man around 12:30pm.

Sensing danger, the youth fled the scene leaving a packet wrapped with a paper.

Later, the BGB members recovered the gold bars worth Tk 25 lakh from the packet.
