Employees demand removal of JU security officer

The employees of Jahangirnagar University (JU) besieged the vice-chancellor’s residence on Tuesday midnight demanding the removal of the Chief Security Officer Sudipta Shaheen for allegedly beat up their fellow over trifling matter.

Over 200 employees of the university took position in front of JU VC Prof Farzana Islam house about at 12.30 am and staged demonstration in favor of their demand. They continued their demonstration till 3am.

Source said around at 11am on Tuesday night, Chief Security Officer Shudipta Shaheen beaten up Sharif Miah, who is a president aspirant of upcoming  class IV employee union election that to be held on January 27.

To protest the incident, the fellows of Sharif Miah staged demonstration in front of JU VC house. The protestors also alleged that other security officers Daud Mollah, Sohel and Khokon Ghosh were accompanied Shaheen.

Victim Shairf Miah said Shudipta Shaheen was drunk and beat up him over a trifling matter.  He demanded the exemplary punishment of Shaheen in this connection. However, when contacted, the chief security officer denied the allegation and claimed that no such incident had been occurred.

About the incident, JU Registrar Rahima Kaniz said a three-member probe body has been formed to investigate the incident. Action will be taken on the basis of the report.
