Journalist’s house ‘looted’ at Delduwar

Some unidentified miscreants vandalised and looted a house in Dolla village under Delduwar upazila of Tangail in the early hours of yesterday. The house belongs to The Independent special correspondent Anisur Rahman Khan. Khan’s younger brother Dipu Akhter, who lives in the house, alleged that the attack was perpetrated by one Ismail Hossain alias Maiyna Kha with a motive to grab their land through intimidation.

“Criminals numbering 30-35 demolished a tin-shed house, vandalised a fence of the house made of corrugated tin and looted around 20 bundles of tin and other valuables worth about taka three lakh,” he said.

The miscreants hurled abuse at Dipu and threatened him to leave the house for good, he added saying that responding to his wife scream for help, neighbours rushed to the spot prompting the criminals to leave the spot.

A complaint was lodged with the local police, but it was not recorded as a case until 9pm, he added.

When contacted, Delduwar Police Station officer in-charge Saidul Islam said that a police team has visited the spot after getting the complaint.
