CARE Bangladesh organises a photo book exhibition titled ‘Sketching Women’s World of Work’ and discussion event at National Museum in Shahbag of the capital Tuesday. State Minister for Labour and Employment, Monnujan Sufian, MP attended the event as the chief guest.

ILO Country Director, Tuomo Poutiainen and UN Women Country Representative, Shoko Ishikawa attended the event as special guests, along with CARE Bangladesh country Director, Zia Choudhury.

The exhibition and discussion event were also attended by noted artist Monirul Islam and photographer Mohammad Rakibul Hasan. The photobook exhibition and discussion highlighted the contribution of women workers in various formal and informal sectors, their challenges and the necessity of protecting women workers at the workplace.

The exhibition displayed 62 photographs from 16 predominantly female photographers. The event was part of CARE Bangladesh’s campaign for an ILO Convention to ensure harassment and violence-free workplace, particularly for women workers.

The convention will be raised for adoption in the next International Labour Conference in June 2019. If agreed upon, it will be the world’s first treaty to end workplace violence and harassment, including gender-based violence.
