Police arrested poet Henry Swapon from his residence in Barishal on Tuesday in a case filed under the Digital Security Act for hurting religious sentiments, UNB reports.

A team of Kotwali Police Station picked him up at noon, said its officer-in-charge Nurul Islam.

The father of a Catholic church in the city filed the case against Henry Swapon over his Facebook post about Sri Lanka series bomb attacks which what he claimed hurt religious sentiments.

Meanwhile, police produced the poet before a court in the afternoon which sent him to jail.

Meanwhile, cultural activists and civil society members condemned the attest.

They said Henry Swapon was threatened with death after his Facebook post.
