Brazil announce squad for Copa America

Brazil have announced their 23-man squad for this summer's Copa America - but there is no room for Real Madrid prodigy Vinicius Jr or team-mate Marcelo.

The Selecao are the hosts for South America's showpiece event, which kicks off on June 14.

Brazil coach Tite has named Premier League stars Ederson and Alisson as two of his three goalkeepers, while Richarlison, Roberto Firmino and Fernandinho also make the cut.

Gabriel Jesus, who has made only eight Premier League starts this season, also makes the squad at the expense of Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr.

Vinicius has had a breakout season in La Liga with the Spanish giants and has been a rare bright spark in what has otherwise been a forgettable campaign for the 13-time European champions.

But the 18-year-old has not done enough to make the squad despite 35 appearances, and he joins Fabinho as another star to fall short.

Marcelo, meanwhile, will not be adding to his 58 caps as coach Tite continues to overlook the left back.

He has opted for Juventus wing-back Alex Sandro and Atletico's Filipe Luis instead of the 31-year-old.

Fabinho was a rock in midfield during Liverpool's Premier League title pursuit, but he has been overlooked for Napoli midfielder Allan, Barcelona's Arthur, Real Madrid's Casemiro and City's Fernandinho.

Moura, who scored a hat-trick for Tottenham in the semi-finals of the Champions League, also failed to make the grade.

Ajax's David Neres, who has one international cap to his name, also makes the squad.
