Abahani director Sakhawat M Chowdhury passes away

Abahani Limited Director Sakhawat Mubin Chowdhury died of cardiac arrest on Monday at 5.15pm his Dhanmondi residence in the capital. He was 68.

He left behind his wife, one son, one daughter and his elder brother Shamsher Mubin Chowdhury to mourn his death.

His first namaj-e-janaza will be held today at Abahani club ground at 12 noon. The second namaj-e-janaza will be held at Taqwa Masjid, Road 12-A Dhanmondi, after Zohr prayer. Later he will be buried at Azimpur graveyard, his family sources said.

Sakhawat M Chowdhury, who was popularly known as Shahan Chowdhury in the country’s sports arena, was a close friend of Abahani founder Shaheed Sheikh Kamal. He was deeply associated with Abahani football and cricket teams and at the initial stages he was also a playing member of the club.

He had worked with Sheikh Kamal to form a formidable team in football, cricket and hockey since its inception in 1972.

Meanwhile, Abahani Limited board of directors and all players condoled the death of Sakhawat  M Chowdhury and prayed for the salvation of the departed soul. The club flag will be flown at half mast for three days from Tuesday.
