Komola Collective to stage ‘Aleya Twist’ at BSA today

Komola Collective, a London-based theatre and arts organisation, will bring its new theatre project ‘Aleya Twist’ this evening at the Experimental Theater Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital.

‘Aleya Twist’ is a modern-day female adaptation of the famous novel ‘Oliver Twist’ by Charles Dickens. ‘Oliver Twist’ is hailed as the first English novel that examined society’s mistreatment of its orphans and underprivileged children.

The British Council, in collaboration with Komola Collective, has embarked upon the project to explore this celebrated English novel, set in the context of present-day Bangladesh.

The characters of this theatre project, retelling emerge in a setting nearly two hundred years after and many thousands of miles away from the original story. However, the difference in time and place have not eased the harsh reality that the original Oliver had to face.

This project is adapted by Leesa Gazi and will be directed by Filiz Ozcan, they are both Joint Artistic Director of Komola Collective. The entire cast and crew have been recruited from local theatre groups and the young actors are recruited through the EDGE clubs in Tangail.

Supported by BRAC and EDGE Clubs of Tangail, entry to the event is free for all. The seats will be available on a first-come first-serve basis.
