Bangladesh Test and Twenty20 captain Shakib Al Hasan said in an interview with local media about his reluctance to lead the team. Even, Shakib reiterated his previous words after losing Test against Afghanistan. But he never informs it to the board or its president officially.

Citing his self-assessments from South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, West Indies from where Shakib took break, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon said that Shakib doesn’t seem to have interests in playing Test cricket which was evident in his break from some previous Test series for the last few years.

But his conception is that Shakib could have told this being emotional after losing to Afghanistan in Test in Chattogram. But he did not tell him about his reluctance to lead the team, even yesterday he didn’t do anything about it while he came to talk.

“It’s a tough question. But it’s right that he has no interest in Test since some more days especially when our team was going to tour to play Test, he was taking a break. Naturally he has less interest in Test,” said Nazmul Hassan Papon.

“But we never heard anything of his captaincy. We never heard that he has less interest in captaincy. But if he is captain he has to play Test. It goes well to avoid if one is not in captaincy stint. So it has come for his reason. But it’s right that he has served for the team. I think he is the best captain. He is the best among the options we have at this moment,” Papon told while talking to media at the reception centre of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.

“As of now he didn’t tell anything to us about his reluctance to captaincy. But he says in media if he stays or has to talk with the board such type of words. I sat with him yesterday but there is held no such talk. As we’ve a series, I think we should not talk about it right away. If he put up the context then the discussion will be held of course,” he added.

Admitting his interference in the team selection in the past especially in Asia Cup, Papon said that he interfered in team while Chandika Hathurusinghe assumed his stint in Bangladesh.

The BCB president also said that he did not interfere in the current team formation and selection. Even he did not interfere in World Cup or even in the Sri Lanka series.

“I earlier told you that I interfered in team selection during the Asia Cup. I did this after doing bad in two-three matches, We picked Imrul Kayes and Soumya Sarkar. You may tell that was my interference. I don’t disagree with this. And I agree that there was my interference,” he said.

“I didn’t interfere in World Cup. You may ask anyone as you like. I am quite dark about Sri Lanka series. There was no coach, so why I tell. I don’t do anything. Still I don’t do anything. I was not in the country. They did what they thought,” he also said.

“Always plan is made for the better. There is no guarantee for winning,” he added.
