4 more die of dengue

Four more patients, including a child and a teenage boy, died of dengue in Jashore, Khulna, Barishal and Dhaka yesterday. Jahida Begum, 35, died at the Jessore General Hospital. She was admitted to the hospital on September 9 in a critical condition. Rahima Begum, 50, died at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH). After being admitted to the hospital last Monday, she undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU).

Md Jihad, 14, died at the Barishal Sher e Bangla Medical College and Hospital  He was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday night.   The fourth dengue-victim was a two-and-a-half-year-old girl, Khadija, who died at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). Daughter of Ismail, from Munshiganj district, was diagnosed with dengue on September 7, and admitted to the Mugda general Hospital.  Later, she was transferred to the DMCH while her condition deteriorated. Khadija breathed her last while undergoing treatment at the hospital yesterday.  

Meanwhile, the number of dengue patients admitted to different hospitals across the country has shown a downward trend.   A total of 634 dengue patients were admitted to various hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours, while the number of admissions on Tuesday was 753.      

Among them, 294 were admitted to various hospitals in Dhaka and the remaining 459 to hospitals outside the capital. According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) control room, the number of patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals across the country is 3,072.  In total, 1,498 patients are currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in the capital, while 1,574 are undergoing treatment outside the capital.

As of today, the number of recorded dengue patients this year has hit 77,983. Among them, at least 52,636 were hospitalised in August alone. A total of 74,714 patients have already been released from hospitals following their recovery.

About 96 per cent of the dengue patients, admitted to different hospitals across the country, were released from hospitals after treatment, according to health officials. The DGHS has so far analysed 101 out of 197 cases of death and confirmed 60 deaths to have been caused by the mosquito-borne disease.
