Saif’s unbeaten double century takes Dhaka to huge total

After smashing a century (117) for Bangladesh ‘A’ in the final one-dayer of the recently concluded Sri Lanka tour, Saif Hasan kept promises to carry on his recent form to the National Cricket League (NCL), blazing a magnificent double ton playing for Dhaka Division at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram yesterday.

Saif Hasan, playing his first innings in the second round of the NCL Tier-1 against Rangpur Divison, scored an unbeaten 220, an innings comprised 19 fours and four sixes helped Dhaka Division post a mammoth 556 runs in their first knock.

The 21-year-old top order batsman, who batted at No.3 for Dhaka, resumed his innings from 120 after leaving the ground on day 1 following a hamstring injury. He along with skipper Nadif Chowdhury added 100-run for the 7th wicket before the latter got out scoring 61. Injury, wickets falling didn’t dent Saif to find runs as he added another 100 runs to his total tally of 220 on day two and his side declared first innings on 556 for 8.

Barring Nadif’s 61, Rony Talukdar and Rakibul Hasan also scored 65 and 57 respectively. For Rangpur, Shohrawardi Shuvo and Sanjit Saha took three wickets each. Liton Das remained unbeaten on 51 after Rangpur Division posted 71 for 2 at the end of day 2.

Saif Hasan became the 2nd batsmen to score a double ton in the ongoing NCL so far along with Imrul Kayes who scored an unbeaten 202 in the NCL first round against Rangpur.

In another Tier 1 encounter between Khulna and Rajshahi, Imrul Kayes missed out from scoring another century after an unlucky run-out sent Imrul back to the pavilion just seven runs away from hundred.

After Soumya Sarker’s departure, Imrul steadied Khulna’s innings adding 75 and 85 runs with Anamul Haque Bijoy (34) and Tushar Imran (43) for second and third wickets respectively, couldn’t reach to another three figure mark after being dismissed for 93 at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna yesterday.

Khulna finished the second day at 227 for 6, trailing by 34 runs in the first innings.

Earlier, Mehedi  Miraj’s four wicket-haul and Mutafizur , Rubel who shared two wickets apiece bundled out Rajshahi for 261 in the first innings.

In Tier 2 match, Sylhet Division, who suffered a humiliating innings defeat in the first round against Barishal, bounced back in the second round after putting pressure on Mahmud Ullah Riyad’s Dhaka Metro at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogura.

Dhaka Metro fast bowler Abu Haider Rony though claimed a fifer for his side (5 for 55), but based on four half-centuries of Towfiq Khan(61), Zakir Hasan(71), Alok Kapali (54) and Jaker Ali (71) Sylhet  managed to post 309 all-out in their first knock.

Dhaka Metro finished day two with a trial of 64 runs in their second innings. Earlier, Mahmud Ullah smashed 63 while Shahidul Islam scored 54 to pile-up 246 in the first innings.

At the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah, Tamim Iqbal less Chittagong posted 356 all-out in their first innings while Barishal ended day two at 104 for 4.

Mahidul Islam Ankon was the top scorer for Chittagong with 91 while Yasir Ali Rabbi who passed the fitness test in second attempt, smashed 70. Irfan Shukkur and Masum Khan Tutul also scored 57 and 50 respectively.
