Ctg Abahani face strong challenge
against Young Elephant today

Hosts Chittagong Abahani Limited, who made a bright start in the third edition of Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup football tournament with a determination to regain the title they lost in the second edition after celebrating the inaugural trophy in 2015.

It was a perfect start for the Sky-Blue of Port City when they just outplayed the holders TC Spots Club of Maldives by 4-1 which is an encouraging message for them to advance courageously on their way to get back in the title race.

However, Chittagong Abahani captain and coach stated about the target of their next match, how they will proceed and their plans.

Captain Jamal Bhuiyan, think that their today’s match against Young Elephant is very crucial, “Next match is very crucial for us and if we can win this match then the team will confirm semifinal place,” said Jamal who is also the national team captain.

Jamal, who worked out on team’s details said, “We have a video analysis of the Young Elephant, they are young team, they have some good attacking players, Maruf Sir discussed with me with our team how we can advance, Young Elephant are very good side they won over Mohun Bagan, one of the strong sides in the tournament.”

“They have two speedy wingers, they are very sharp in the counter attacks, they moved up very quick against the Mohun Bagan, so we have idea that they are very attacking and strong team,” Jamal said about today’s opponents Young Elephant.

“We are a new team, 11 new players are playing together first time, so there is big question about the combination, as I think we have a good combination in the first match but we will have to better it.”

Jamal does not think any match would be easy, “Every match would be tough in the tournament, because there is not enough  time really to recover from each match, hope for next matches every one of 11 will recover enough and will have more time to think about semifinal.”

Jamal is happy with the foreign booters as he said, “Who played in the starting eleven were well, Luka (Montenegro) scored goal, Mathew (Nigeria), Iqbol Jon (Uzbekistan) defended well and Didier (Ivory Coast), who played in French League, did well with me at the midfield, in fact everybody played good.”

Jamal also said about uncertainty of Prince Tagoe, “He played in World Cup, played European club, actually I don’t know about his fitness right now, he needs more time to adjust in Bangladesh.”

Maruful Haque, head coach of Chittagong Abahani, said, “In fact I told you earlier that our ultimate target is to regain the title for Chittagong Abahani, but now our focus on the next match, as there is opportunity to move to semifinal after winning the match, though the team, as we thought and saw, they are more than stronger.”
