Moviyana to remember Anwar Hossain on first death anniv today

Remembering eminent photographer-cinematographer Anwar Hossain on his first death anniversary today, a commemorative programme--organised by Moviyana Film Society--will be held at 6pm at the Seminar Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Segun Bagicha of the capital.

As part of the event, Moviyana Film Society is going to publish a special memorial poster painted by Sabyasachi Hazra. Noted filmmaker Syed Salahuddin Zaki will unveil the poster.

Filmmaker Masihuddin Saker, film critic Anupam Hayat, photographer Nasir Ali Mamun, Anwar Hossain’s brother Ali Hossain Babu and president of Moviyana Film Society Belayet Hossain Mamun will discuss the life and work of Anwar Hossain.

Hossain was born in Old Dhaka in 1948. He started his photography career in 1967. His photography captured the Liberation War of Bangladesh. Hossain worked as a cinematographer for 15 fictions and 30 documentary films. Hossain won more than 60 international awards in photography.

Setting a record, Hossain won the Bangladesh National Film Award for five times in the category of Best Cinematography for the films ‘Surja Dighal Bari’ (1979), ‘Emiler Goenda Bahini’ (1980), ‘Puraskar’ (1983), ‘Anya Jibon’ (1995) and ‘Lalsalu’ (2001).

Hossain was found dead at Hotel Olio Dream Heaven in Panthapath, Dhaka on December 1 last year.
