The Bangladesh women's cricket team made a dream start to the campaign registering a seven-wicket win over their Sri Lankan counterpart in the ongoing South Asian Games at Pokhara Rangasala stadium in Nepal yesterday.

Put into bat, Sri Lankan women made a steady start before losing their first wicket on 34 after the power play. Opener Umesha Thimashini, who scored 56 off 49 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes, built a 48-run stand for second wicket with Harshitha Madavi, dismissed on 33. While both were looking good at that time, Nahida Akhter removed both of them to take the control of the match. From 111 for 7 after 17 overs, the Sri Lankans could only manage to score 11 runs to set a 123 run target for the Tigresses to win the match.

Nahida Akhter bagged four wickets for the Tigresses.

In reply, Bangladesh too suffered an early blow when Murshida Khatun departed for 8 in the second over. But Ayesha Rahman and Sanjida Islam rebuilt the innings adding 53-run for the second wicket before the former dismissed for 29. Though Nigar Sultana failed to impress with the bat, Sanjida Islam picked up a half century (51) while Farzana Haque (23) did the job done to guide Tigresses to a marginal seven-wicket win with nine balls to spare.

Sanjida Islam named Player of the Match for her contribution with the bat, remaining unbeaten on 51.
