Dhaka Int’l Folk Festival 2017 kicks off

The third edition of the three-day mega folk music event titled ‘Dhaka International Folk Festival’ began at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in the capital yesterday. Music aficionados from all walks of life, including a large number of young audience, gathered at the venue with the expectation of enjoying the fascinating performances by music maestros from eight countries to the fullest, with the sweet memory of exploring a mystical journey to the music world in the last two years.

Yesterday, on the opening day, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith was present as the chief guest. Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokon, Chairman and CEO of Sun Communications Anjan Chowdhury were present among others at the opening ceremony. The festival began with a fascinating performance by the Sufi Baul band Bauliana from Bangladesh. After Bauliana,

Fakir Shahabuddin-sufi philosopher, who won Amnesty International, United Nations Human Rights Award, Jashim Uddin Award, Abdul Alim Award and so many more with his magical voice and indomitable spirit towards his music, performed on the stage.  Then, the audience enjoyed the traditional Samba Music (Brazilian music styles) by the Brazilian Mauricio Tizumba & Sextet. Tenzin Choegyal from Tibet and Papon from Assam also performed on the opening night.

The three-day ‘Dhaka International Folk Fest 2017’, presented by Meril, will end tomorrow.
