24 Bangladeshis held at Benapole border

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained 24 Bangladeshi nationals, who were trafficked to India eight years back, while they were entering the country through Sadipur border in Benapole early Sunday.

The detainees, including 15 women and nine men, hail from different areas of Faridpur, Narail and Khulna districts.

Lt Col Ariful Haque, commanding officer of BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) 49 Battalion, said being tipped off that a good number of women and men were crossing the border illegally, a BGB team conducted a drive and detained them.

Later, they were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station.

Abdul Mannan, one of the detainees, said they went to India eight years back and had been working in Mumbai city. As crackdown is underway there, they returned their homeland.
