Trump’s declaration of Jerusalem as Israeli capital unexpected: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said the unilateral declaration of US President Donald Trump to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel will cause anarchy around the world.

"This will create instability in the world...the peace process that was initiated by the USA will drive to the path of anarchy with this announcement... this is not desired," she said.

The Prime Minister was responding to a question at the press conference held at Ganobahban.

It was organised to brief the media about the outcome of her recent Cambodia tour.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday said the US will recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Sheikh Hasina said the declaration by the US President on his own was not desired by anyone. "Because there is an UN Resolution on the issue; so steps should be taken as per the UN Resolution. No one will accept such violation of the UN Resolution...this is my statement," she said.

The Prime Minister also said Bangladesh thinks that Palestinians have their rights and there must be recognition of their State. "East Jerusalem was supposed to be the capital of Palestine considering the border after the 1967 war and that should prevail," she said.

Sheikh Hasina urged the Muslim Ummah as well as all Muslim countries to be united over the issue so that the Palestinians could get their just rights. "We want that all Muslim countries could be united on this issue," she said.UNB.
