Dhaka Dynamites will get their opponent in the final today as Comilla Victorians take on Rangpur Riders in the second Qualifier game at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at 6pm.

Comilla, the champions of 2015, squandered the chance to have a direct entry to the final by tasting a crushing 95-run loss to Dhaka Dynamites in the first Qualifier. Such was Dhaka’s batting and bowling might that Comilla were wrapped up for paltry 96 after Dhaka put up 191 for seven.

Comilla came into the match, seeking their third successive victory against Dhaka in this season but when it mattered Dhaka overpowered them to confirm their second straight BPL final.

For Dhaka, it will be fourth final in the five seasons of BPL, having won three trophies in 2012 and 2013 in the name of Dhaka Gladiators and one last year as Dhaka Dynamites. Comilla was the only other team to win a BPL trophy.

However Comilla will give another shot to the final but they have to face a stiff challenge with Chris Gayle regaining his destructive form. Khulna tasted the Gayle-power in the Eliminator game as the Caribbean giant single-handedly hunt down the target of 168 with unbelievable ease, smashing 51 ball-126 not out alone.

If Gayle could replicate that form, it is all but sure that Comilla would have no chance. But Comilla skipper Tamim Iqbal believed his side is not that a bad team to loss two consecutive matches.

“The next game will be a completely new game. I think we are not that bad team, which can taste two defeats in a row,” Tamim said.

“I will term our day against Dhaka is a bad day. In cricket, you have to face such day at some point of the tournament. Luckily we have another game to confirm the final. I hope we have a good turnaround,” he remarked.

But the question that came to the fore that as to how they would neutrilise the Gayle threat.

“Gayle is such a destructive player who can take away the game at any moment. Once he gets going, he is unstoppable. We dismissed him cheaply twice when he faced us in the group phase. Hopefully we can do that again in tomorrow’s match,” Tamim expected.

However Comilla’s top order was disappointing in the game against Dhaka Dynamites, specially the form of Joss Buttler should make them worried.

“We know how good player he is but that doesn’t mean that a good player won’t go through a bad phase. Buttler has been in a bad phase now but we know when he gets going, he will be destructive. If he bats well, we’ll have an extra advantage.”

While Tamim and Comilla would be worried about Galye, Rangpur Riders captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza found him in a pleasant position. Brendan McCullum though couldn’t live up to his reputation but Mashrafe believed, the former Kiwi captain could fire at any moment.

“The confidence is now high. Hopefully we’ll have another good game against our opponent and we’ll make it to the final,” Mashrafe said. The final of BPL will be held on Tuesday.
