President for quality education at varsities
President M Abdul Hamid

President M Abdul Hamid yesterday asked the university authorities to take realistic steps along with suitable curriculums to help the students acquire world-standard knowledge of contemporary issues, reports BSS.

He came up with the call as vice-chancellors of three universities - Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) Major General Salahuddin Miaji, Prof Dr M Giasuddin Miah of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMAU) and Prof Dr Al-Nakib Chowdhury of Pabna Science and Technology University (PSTU) - called on him separately at Bangabhaban in the capital.

"The President has directed the university authorities to ensure world-standard and quality education at the varsities," President's Press Secretary M Joynal Abedin said.

Terming the university as the highest seat of learning, the President categorically urged the authorities concerned to take realistic measures to prepare the students to face the global competition with necessary academic knowledge.

Abdul Hamid also stressed the need for research activities in the universities and for developing new varieties of flood-tolerant crops aiming to cope with the adverse effects of climate change.

The President was apprised by the vice-chancellors of overall activities of their universities, including recent infrastructural development, academic activities and future plan.

Earlier, outgoing Principal Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury paid a courtesy call on the President in the afternoon.

Chowdhury expressed gratitude to the President for providing all-out support and cooperation during his assignments. Secretaries concerned to the President were present.
