Independent Online Desk
ENT treatment available in Bangladesh

Treatment of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) is available in Bangladesh at minimal cost, said Professor Dr Pran Gopal Dutta.

Even, various complex operations like blood vessel tumor, parotid gland tumor, thyroid or goiter and tongue tumor are being done free of cost. So, there is no need of going abroad to spend extra cost.

Renowned Head-Neck Specialist and former Vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Professor Dutta made this observation while addressing a Head-Neck Surgeons conference.

Bangladesh Society of Head-Neck Surgeons (BSHNS) and Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) jointly organized the conference at Rajshahi Medical College Auditorium here yesterday.

Prof Dutta said new dimension of specialized branches relating to ear, nose and throat has now been opened in every hospital in Bangladesh.

Of those, head, neck, cancer and thyroid cancer specialized branches are significant.

The conference was followed by a scientific session on present surgical situation of head and neck in Bangladesh.

Prof Dr Belayet Hossain Siddiqui, Prof Kamrul Hassan Tarafder, Prof Dr Monzurul Alam and Prof Jahurul Haque from BSMMU, Prof Dr Abu Hanif from National Institute of ENT, Vice-principal of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and Let Col Dr Ali Azad from Dhaka CMH addressed the session.

Prof Dr Belayet Siddiqui told the seminar that cancers of head, neck and thyroid are mounting alarmingly. Betel-leaf, jarda, smoking, alcohol, factory smoke and dust, radiation and virus are the risk factors of the cancers.

So, there is no alternative to creating public awareness about the chronic diseases. If the disease was detected at early stage it could be cured through proper treatment, he added.bss.
