Six-day film festival starts at DU tomorrow

A six-day film festival, organised by Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS), is set to be held from February 12 to 17 at the TSC Auditorium of Dhaka University in the capital on the occasion of International Mother Language Day. The 17th edition of the festival, titled ‘Amar Bhasar Chalachitra’, featuring 19 Bangladeshi films will begin tomorrow.

Most of the films in this festival have been made by the contemporary Bangladeshi filmmakers. Besides, some Indian classics are also included in the festival. Among these, nine classic Bangla films like ‘Mahanagar’, ‘Megher Onek Rang’, ‘Guddi’, ‘Kacher Deyal’ and ten contemporary films like ‘Zukti Tokko Goppo’, ‘Haldaa’, ‘Gohin Baluchar’, ‘Bishorjan’ and others will be screened at the festival.

DUFS is organising the film show for the 17th year. For the second time, DUFS will honour a filmmaker with Hiralal Sen Padak. Five Bangladeshi films ‘Haldaa’, ‘Bhubhan Majhi’, ‘Khacha’, ‘Gohin Baluchar’ and ‘Rina Brown’ will compete for the award.

To promote Bangla films and to help change the taste of audiences and bring out more talented filmmakers, DUFS has been organising the annual film festival with the slogan ‘Sustha Chalachitra, Sustha Darshak’ since its inception in 2000.
