Celebration of LDC gradation a mockery: BNP

BNP on Thursday alleged that the government’s celebration of Bangladesh’s eligibility to graduate to a developing country from the group of least developed countries is nothing but a mockery with people.

“Corruption, plundering and bribery have marked a sharp rise in the country. Tk 100 is being spent on a task worth Tk 1 crore.

The unemployment rate is the highest in Bangladesh among the South Asian countries. Are these the signs of development? We’ve nothing to say about this,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

He further said, “The government is talking about development and celebrating the country’s graduation as a developing one only to overcome the next election hurdle. This is nothing but a mockery with people.”

The BNP leader came up with the remarks while speaking at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, reports UNB.

He alleged that the ruling party forced the government’s officials and employees to join the programme.

The government on Thursday launched a five-day programme to celebrate Bangladesh’s eligibility for graduation from the group of least developed countries (LDCs) to a developing one.

Bangladesh has recently officially received the confirmation letter from UN's Committee for Development Policy (CDP) about attaining the three graduation criteria to consider for graduation from the group of least developed countries to a developing one.
