‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ hits Star Cineplex

‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’, or simply titled ‘Solo’--a 2018 American space Western film and the  latest Star Wars film, a prequel charting the formative years of Han Solo, a character from the Star Wars franchise--released at Star Cineplex of Bashundhara City Shopping Mall of the capital yesterday. The film ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ was released in Bangladesh along with its US release.

The film is directed by Ron Howard and produced by Lucasfilm, from a screenplay by Jonathan and Lawrence Kasdan.

It is the second of the Star Wars anthology films, following 2016’s Rogue One. A stand-alone installment set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, it explores the adventures of younger versions of Han Solo and Chewbacca, who also meet a young Lando Calrissian.

The cast of the film includes Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, alongside Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo, and Paul Bettany.

The film had its world premiere in Los Angeles on May 10, 2018, and also screened on May 15 at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, before its United States release by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures in RealD 3D and IMAX 3D.

The film received generally positive reviews, with critics praising the cast (particularly Ehrenreich and Glover), musical score, visuals and action sequences, although many criticized the pacing and noted that the film added ‘nothing new’ to the Star Wars franchise.

Showtime: 11:20am, 2:15pm, 7:20pm
