The brow basics

Eyebrows are an important part of your grooming routine. But brow-shaping is a tough nut to crack.

These tips will help you get it right.

The end of your brows should be darker than the front: The light hits the centre of your face, so unnaturally dark brows always look odd.

Dark brows towards the front give the illusion of a frown. Brows which are sparse in the beginning but thicker towards the ends give the face a brighter look.

Two brow colours — one light and one dark — should be used for the front and back: It is wise to use two brow colours in the same family while drawing in brow hair. The lighter one is better for filling in towards the front portion. The darker one helps add volume towards the ends.

Your brows should begin right above where your nostrils are, on either side of your nose: A basic rule to follow while shaping your brows, also while threading.

It’s not an either/or when it comes to gels, shadows, pomades, and pencils. You need at least two: A brow gel can tame your eyebrows but it cannot add the appearance of full and filled-in brows. A pencil or shadow can fill in your brows, but it will droop down and refuse to behave without a gel or wax. For perfect brows, find a combination of these products.

Always pluck, shave, or thread towards their lower part adjacent to your eyes: If you just remove hair on the upper portion, you lower your brows, thereby making the overall look straight and arch-less. Instead, maintain the hair on top and just remove stray hair on the sides while shaping.

Use a magnifying mirror, but...: Take a step back and look at your eyebrows in a normal mirror too, for the bigger picture. You might over pluck and ruin the shape if you are only seeing your brows from up-close.

Best brows in business: Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and Sonam Kapoor wear their brows dark and thick – a big trend right now.
