Remembering Michael Madhusudan Dutt in stage production

Remembering the popular 19th-century Bengali poet and dramatist Michael Madhusudan Dutt on his 145th death anniversary, country’s prominent theatre troupe Prangone Moris going to stage its play titled ‘Darao…Janmo Jadi Tabo Bange’ today at 7pm at the Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mahila Samiti in the capital’s Baily Road area.

‘Darao…Janmo Jadi Tabo Bange’, which is the 12th production of the troupe, is written by Apurba Kumar Kundu and Ananta Hira has directed it. The stage and costume design of the play has been done by Nuna Afroz, while Ramiz Raju is in the music and Ahmed Sujan is in the lighting design.

The cast of the play includes Ananta Hira, Ramiz Raju, Shubheccha Rahman and Al-Avi Jahan Tusi.

Madhusudan, the greatest poet of the Bengal Renaissance, passed away on June 29 in 1873 in Calcutta General Hospital.

The play ‘Darao…Janmo Jadi Tabo Bange’ depicts the final hour of his life before embracing death in a miserable condition. The play is all about the finding out the answer to a much sought-after query that why Madhusudan didn’t inform Henrietta about writing the epitaph as he usually shared about all his works with her.

The play premiered on June 26 in 2017 at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital.
