Drishtipat to stage ‘Nagor Alir Kichchha’ today

Theatre troupe Drishtipat Natya Sangsad will stage its acclaimed production ‘Nagor Alir Kichchha’ today evening at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital.

‘Nagor Alir Kichchha’, the 12th production of the troupe, is a satirical play, which portrays the vivid picture of river erosion victims in the city as well as makes fun on the country’s so-called security system.

Written and directed by MA Salam, the play opens with Nagor Ali, a young man of 30, who loses his homestead to the mighty Padma, flocks to the capital with his maternal uncle, Hasan Choukidar, to make both ends meet.

The play starts with an imaginary scene where three souls of language martyrs of 1952 ask a living freedom fighter, ‘What have you done after the Liberation War? Why hasn’t there been a change in the current situation of the society?’

The plot advances with two men, Nagor Ali and his maternal uncle, coming to Dhaka for a job. Through their experiences in the city, the playwright successfully depicts the darker side of Dhaka.

Nagor Alir Kissa ends with a scene when Nagor dies in a clash between rival parties.

In the play, the playwright MA Salam has used the dialect of the slum dwellers and slang for his characters. The actors, thus, have a touch of realism.

Through humourous incidents, Nagor Ali and his uncle make satires on various aspects of urban lives.

Apart from directing the play, MA Salam had designed the set while stage lights were done by Swapan Das.

The cast of the play includes MA Salam, Shukla, Tandra, Azim, Monir, Enamul, Morshed, Manik, Imran, Abir, Swapan Das, Laila, Kazi Anis, Salam Badal, SM Hasan, SA Alik, Akash Ahmed and Syed Ali, among others.
