‘Meenalap’ wins Grand Prix award in Kazakhstan

A Bangladesh-India short film ‘Meenalap’ (Soliloquy of the Fishes) won the Grand Prix award as the best film in International Short Films category at the 14th Eurasia International Film Festival. The festival took place from July 1 to 7 in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana during the celebration of Astana’s 20th anniversary.


 
Directed by Suborna Senjutee Tushee, ‘Meenalap’ (Soliloquy of the Fishes) is about the transformation of life while living in a lonely city and about Hope.

The film revolves around a Bengali couple migrated from a remote village of West Bengal to Pune city, working in a garment factory and struggling to meet the ends while expecting a child.

The film delves into the psychological changes of them in the realm of urban alienation in absence of own family and culture while becoming a mother and a father from husband and wife for the first time.

The cast of the film includes Titas Dutta, Pramito Dutta, Vivek Kumar, Devas Dixit.

Suborna Senjutee Tushee is a cultural activist starting her profession as a journalist in Dhaka.

She worked as a copywriter in the advertising sector. She was involved in group theatre from her childhood. A post graduate in Economics, she worked in television as an anchor, as program-writer, and has experience as a script writer on cinema, television drama and social welfare sector. After completing her P.G. Diploma in Film Direction and Script Writing from Film & Television Institute of India, Pune (F.T.I.I), she is practicing film making in Bangladesh.

To note, Eurasia International Film Festival (EIFF) largest film forum of Central Asia accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) that unites 25 most prestigious producers’ associations from 23 countries. It is in top 35 world’s leading film festivals.
