As Bangladesh look to bounce back in three-match ODI series to put a shed on their horrendous Test performance, they will get a test of how challenging the limited over series would be when they play an only warm-up today at Kingston ahead of the series.

Their opponents will be UWC Vice Chancellor’s XI who is expected to unleash a quality side but Bangladesh would be more worried about their performance.

Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza however will miss the match since he would reach Jamaica at 3pm local time.

It is going to be their first ODI series in West Indies after they leapfrogged West Indies in the ICC ODI rankings following their epic cricket season in 2015. Like the Test series, therefore, Bangladesh also starts the ODI series as highest ranked team.

But the rankings proved to be just a number in Test series, a thing that Bangladesh definitely want not to be repeated in the ODI series.

Moreover it is no secret that they played the ODI format better than the others formats. It is now high time to prove that.

Bangladesh only series win in Test and ODI in Caribbean Island came against a depleted –second string—West Indian side in 2009 but they were whitewashed in both Test and ODI series in 2014, the last time when they visited the country.

The West Indies ODI squad would be far stronger than the Test squad as a result of the inclusion of the likes of Chris Gayle and Andre Russell but Bangladesh have the experience to beat the Caribbean’s even with the two in the side.

Gayle along with Patrick Patterson, a fast bowler of the country in 80’s however will be given a special honour by the Jamaica Cricket in the midst of the practice match.

Bangladesh however would be more delighted to get the service of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, their captain in ODI format and also the best pacer by far distance. Mustafizur Rahman also joins the ODI team, recovering from his injury, so Bangladesh would get their full-strength side and thereby the expectation is sky high.

Even though the result of the practice game is hardly counted, it’s an opportunity for the likes Mustafizur and others who joined the ODI team to test their match fitness.

The first ODI of the three-match series will take place in Providence on July 22, while the last two matches will be held at Basseterre on July 26 and 28.

The tour concludes with a T20I series in the first week of August. While Bangladesh play the first T20 in West Indies, the last two T20 matches will be held in USA. Bangladesh have already lost the Test series, where they were swept 2-0.
