A Dhaka court on Monday placed 12 students, who were allegedly picked up by detectives on Wednesday, on remand.

Metropolitan Magistrate Nurunnahar Yasmin passed the order when sub-inspector Abdur Rahman of Tejgaon Industrial Police Station produced them before her court seeking a seven-day remand, reports UNB.

Those remanded are Mujahidul Islam, Iftekhar Alam, Jahangir Alam, Raihanul Abedin, Mahfuz Ahmed, Tarik Aziz, Mehedi Hasan, Jahirul Islam, Saifullah Bin Mansur, Al Amin and Borhan Uddin.

All of them were put on a two-day remand in a case filed for assaulting police while Tarek Aziz was granted another two-day remand in another case filed under the ICT Act.

Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said law enforcers arrested the 12 students from Tajkunipara on Sunday.

They were accused in two cases filed with Tejgaon Industrial Police Station over attacking police and spreading rumour over the recent student movement, he said.

Police said miscreants chanted anti-government slogans and attacked police in front of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology in Tejgaon on August 6.

However, families of the students on Sunday alleged that Detective Branch of police picked them up from Tejgaon area on Wednesday last.
