Ex-nat’l football and player Gazi passes away

Former national football team coach and player Wazed Gazi died of cardiac arrest at his Jashore residence at 9am on Thursday. He was 87.

He left behind two sons and one daughter to mourn his death.

His Namaj-e-janaza was held at Jashore Eidgah maidan after zohr prayers.

Gazi who used to play as left winger and popularly known as left footed winger, started his first division football league career in favour of  the then EPIDC in 1968. Then he played for the same team (BJIC or BJMC) after the independence of Bangladesh. Later he switched to Mohammedan Sporting Club in 1975 where he played for four years. At the fag end of 80s, he became national coach and did the same job for MSC and other clubs. He also played for Calcutta MSC and Sporting Union before migrating to then East Pakistan in mid 60s.

Bangladesh Olympic Association, Bangladesh Football Federation and Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association condoled the death of former national footballer Wazed Gazi. They prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and expressed their heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family.
