Three local theatre troupes—Prangone Mor, Dhaka Padatik and Sanskar Natyadal—will stage their audience-admired productions today at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital. As a part of the ongoing 11-day ‘Ganga Jamuna Cultural Festival 2018’, Prangone Mor will stage their seventh production ‘Aurangzeb’ at the National Theatre Hall of BSA at 7pm, while Dhaka Padatik will stage its play ‘Trial of Surya Sen’ at the BSA’s Experimental Theatre Hall and Sanskar Natyadal will stage its 5th production titled ‘Boshikoron’ at the Studio Theatre Hall at the same time.

The play ‘Aurangzeb’ is written by Mohit Chattopadhyaya and directed by Ananta Hira, the play selects, telescopes and fuses some historic events to capture the fissures as well as the peaks of a period of history.

The play is featuring the life of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

The play will highlight every aspect of the Mughal emperor’s life. Aurangzeb was also known as ‘Alamgir’ or ‘conqueror of the world’. His death, the palace politics as well as the pride of Mughal era will be highlighted in the play as well.

On the other hand, based on the anti-British movement, ‘Trial Surya Sen’ has been written and directed by Masum Aziz. This is the 38th production of Dhaka Padatik.

Along with 40 other characters, the main characters of the play include Surya Sen, Pritilata, Kalpana Dutta, Ambika Chakravarti, Lokenath Bal and Nirmalsen.

Surya Sen was a revolutionary who was influential in the Indian independence movement (against British rule) and who is noted for leading the 1930 Chittagong armoury raid in Chittagong of Bengal in British India (now in Bangladesh). Sen was a school teacher by profession and was popularly called as Master Da.

Besides, the play ‘Boshikoron’, written by Rabindranath Tagore, highlights the ignorance and superstition of the earlier society. Although there is no provision of religious techniques or techniques to bring people to urban life, this practice is still engaged in the lives of rural people.

The play is rewritten and directed by Yusuf Hasan Arko. The probable casts of the play ‘Boshikoron’ include Manami Islam Kanak, Ashikur Rahman, Bappi Saif, Nadi Bappi, Ariful Islam, Pritha De and ND Chanchal and many other young dramatists.
