Sharmili Ahmed, one of the most celebrated actresses of the country’s film and drama, will be honoured with ‘Crest of Appreciation’ by Star Cineplex—a Bangladeshi movie theatre chain owned by Show Motion Limited. Star Cineplex will honour the veteran at a function to celebrate its 14th founding anniversary at its Star Zone located in the country’s one of the biggest shopping malls Bashundhara City in the capital.

Rebeka Sultana, marketing and distribution manager of Star Cineplex, who is also the main planner of today’s event, confirmed the news of honouring Sharmili Ahmed.

The entire event is managed by celebrated TV drama maker Chayanika Chowdhury.

DhakaLive has news that Sharmili Ahmed is going to be recognised for her special contribution to country’s film since 1964. Having learned the news, Sharmili Ahmed has expressed her immense gladness by saying, “I am particularly grateful to the Star Cineplex management. It’s my pleasure that they have thought about my contribution to the film in this way and honouring me. I must especially thank Rebeka Sultana and Chayanika Chowdhury for their hard work in the making of a documentary on me. I will cherish the memories of this recognition rest of my life.”

On the other hand, as many as 13 commercially successful movies screened at the Star Cineplex after its inception will also be awarded today at the same function. These notable films are SA Haque Olike’s ‘Hridoyer Kotha, Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s ‘Third Person Singular Number’, Gias Uddin Selim’s ‘Monpora’, Redoan Roni’s ‘Chorabali’, Nasir Uddin Yousuf Bachchu’s ‘Guerrilla’, Mahfuz Ahmed’s ‘Zero Degree’, Amitabh Reza’s ‘Aynabaji’, Fakhrul Arefin’s ‘Bhuban Majhi’ and Dipankar Dipan’s ‘Dhaka Attack’, among others.

However, making debut on the big screen with an Urdu film titled ‘Thikana’, Sharmili Ahmed appeared in her first Bangla film ‘Abirbhab’ directed by Subash Dutt. The film was released in March, 1968. After taking a break for her marriage, she returned to the film with ‘Rupali Saikat’. Then, she acted in the films like ‘Aradhona’, ‘Alingan’, ‘Ayna and Oboshishto’, ‘Bashundhara’, ‘Rai Binodini’, ‘Sud Asol’ and many others. Her demand for the role of mother in the films went up significantly after she portrayed the central role in the film ‘Agun’.
