‘Haldaa’, a Bangladeshi film directed by Tauquir Ahmed which earlier won multiple international and national awards in different film festivals, has again managed to dazzle the audience and jury board members at yet another international festival and secured its seventh international award. This time around, ‘Haalda’ has won the Grand Prix at the ‘21st Religion Today Film Festival’ held in Trento, Italy.

Confirming the news about winning the prestigious award, Tauquir Ahmed wrote on his Facebook wall on Wednesday, “Haldaa wins Grand Prix in 21st Religion Today Film Festival, Trento Italy.

Award ceremony will be held tonight (Wednesday). Thanks Team Haldaa.”

Produced by Nokkhattro Cholochitro, the film brought together an array of talented cast, which includes Mosharraf Karim, Zahid Hasan, Nusrat Imrose Tisha and Fazlur Rahman Babu, Dilara Zaman, Shahed Ali and Runa Khan, among others.

The story of the film ‘Haldaa’ is written by Azad Bulbul, while the screenplay of the film came from director Tauquir Ahmed himself. The intense drama film is set against the backdrop of the river Halda situated in Chittagong. The lives and struggles of fishermen during the breeding season set the tone for the film. The film also delves into some social conflicts and a centrepiece love story between two lead characters, Mosharraf Karim and Tisha. The film was released on December 1 last year.

Earlier, ‘Haldaa’ won awards in four categories, such as Best Feature Film, Best Editing, Best Cinematographer and Best Original Score in ‘SAARC Film Festival 2018’ while in ‘Kosovo film festival 2018’, the film was awarded Best Cinematography.

To note, Religion Today has been the foremost international and itinerant film festival dedicated to Cinema and Religions for a culture of peace and dialogue between faiths, cultures, peoples and individuals since 1997. This year, ‘21st Religion Today Film Festival’ screened 62 films from 28 countries. l
