Minhajul lauds youngsters’ performance in warm-up
Minhajul Abedin Nannu

Minhajul Abedin Nannu, chief selector of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) lauded the overall performance of the team especially the youngsters against Zimbabwe in the practice match held at the BKSP yesterday.

The way the youngsters are performing if they could remain in a continuous progress, Nannu said that the window of the national team will always be opened for all.

Citing the names of Soumya, Ebadot and Saifuddin, the chief selector said that this victory will obviously boost the confidence of the team ahead of the one-day series.

“Soumya did a tremendous batting. -----------Thereafter, Soumya’s batting after the lunch was very good.

I think, he gradually comes out of his bad patch. In the last NCL match, he played well. I believe, he will soon come back in the team if he gets back his form,” Minhajul Abedin Nannu said of Soumya Sarkar.

“Soumya is not gone out of our sight. He is in our 30-man pool. Actually we are in a process. We’ve to watch some of our players in the Zimbabwe series. If we think we needed a player we’ll call-up him. There is nothing to be worried about it,” he told after the practice match in Savar.

“It’s not that we have dropped a player who will not get call any more. Those who are in our 30-player pool will be called up when they will be needed for the team,” he added.

About paceman Ebadot Hossain, Nannu said, “Ebadot (Hossain) bowling at early moment was very impressive. He bowls really well throughout the match. We were nursing him in High Performance (HP) for the last two years. He has been taken to the one-day side for a longer period. We were ready him for the longer version. Overall, it has been better to see him that our HP players are now at a good stead.”

“Saifuddin is in our one day squad. He bowls very well.  Overall, the whole team does very well. The performance and team effort was excellent. If our youngster could be remained in continuous progress, the window for all will then be opened,” he said of Saifuddin.

Fazle-Mahmud Rabbi turned to be main topic of discussion when he stepped into the national team at the age of 30 after so many ups and downs. Minhajul said that they did not want to asses him by a match as he has a good time of his career ahead.

“He represents the national team for the first time. He played his first innings against Zimbabwe. He plays first time against a Test-playing nation. It’ll not be right to evaluate in that sense,” the former captain said, adding: “ It’s just an experience.  He has a career ahead of him. I believe, he will, of course, do well.”
