Govt creates 230 supernumerary posts for SPs

Staff Reporter, Dhaka
Govt creates 230 supernumerary posts for SPs

For the first time, the government has created a total of 230 supernumerary posts of superintendents of police (SPs) yesterday, to facilitate the promotion of officers belonging to the BCS (Bangladesh Civil Service) police cadre, government sources said.

The decision to create the supernumerary posts was taken in a meeting at the office of the secretary of public security division of the home ministry yesterday.

Senior officials of police wing of the public security division, the inspector-general of police (IGP), and senior officers from the police headquarters attended the meeting.

The move came barely days ahead of the Election Commission's announcement on the forthcoming parliamentary election schedule.

Talking to The Independent, a senior official of the public security division of the home ministry said the supernumerary posts have been created for one year.

“Those BCS police cadre officials of the 25th batch, who are working as additional SPs in the police administration and have completed 12 years of service, will get promoted as SPs through the introduction of these supernumerary posts,” he said.

The official said that the public security division will hold a departmental promotion committee (DPC) meeting, soon, for promotions to the post of SP. Following the DPC meeting the government order would be issued.

According to the official, the supernumerary posts have been created to strengthen the police administration and make it more dynamic.

The home ministry official informed that administrative officers of the 25th batch of BCS have been promoted to the rank of deputy secretary recently, but the 25th batch BCS police cadre officials continue to work as additional SPs.

Meanwhile, 17 senior police officers have been promoted to either additional inspector-general of police or deputy inspector-general of police on Tuesday.
