AL starts selling nomination papers today

AL starts selling nomination papers today

The Awami League (AL) will start selling its nomination forms for the upcoming 11th parliamentary election from 10 am today. The aspiring contestants can collect the papers from party president Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office, according to an AL press release.

This time, the price of the ruling party’s nomination form has been fixed at Tk. 30,000. The aspiring candidates can collect the form from eight booths that will be set up at the new Bhaban of the party’s Dhanmondi political office.

However, the AL Parliamentary Board (ALPB) will nominate “competent and popular” contestants for the party and announce their names following a meeting with the party president. AL insiders said the ALPB meeting might be held in the middle of the month at Hasina’s official residence Gono Bhaban.

Around 10 to 15 leaders are likely to collect nomination forms from each parliamentary constituency. Meanwhile, the AL high-ups have decided to ensure single party candidate at each seat for the national polls. If anyone contests the next polls as a rebel candidate, he/she will be sacked from the party instantly, AL insiders said.

Meanwhile, announcement of the polls schedule brought about a festive mood into the Dhanmondi party office of the AL last evening. Party insiders said many young leaders are eagerly waiting to collect party nomination forms with the aspiration to contest the next general elections slated for December 23.

If the BNP decides not to participate in the polls, the young aspirants of the ruling party can get opportunity to vie for the national election, said party insiders.
