Three-day art exhibition ‘Ode to Joy’ held at Drik Gallery

Project Pothchola, a progressive social endeavour run by Bandhu Foundation of Bangladesh, organised a three-day exhibition titled ‘Ode to Joy’ from November 29 to December 1 at Drik Gallery in Dhanmondi of the capital. The exhibition featured the artworks by a group of children of the sex workers.

Noted cartoonist, writer and editor of Unmad, Ahsan Habib inaugurated the exhibition on November 29.

In his speech, Ahsan Habib said, “Through artworks, a person can express his or her mind. Such kind of exhibition creates room for intellectual exercise. Here, I have seen the mind of the children through their artworks and I appreciate the initiative what the organisation is doing. We all should support them and the cause.”

On the second day of the exhibition, ‘Ghashphoring Choir’, a young enthusiast musical band, performed at the exhibition venue on November 30, while young music sensation, Rezaul Karim Leemon performed on the closing day to support the cause.

Supported by Computer Jogot, it was the second exhibition of Pothchola on a bigger scale, which involved products of different sessional activities carried out by the children. They crowned their thoughts through drawings, origamis and typographies. There were also installation arts of various kinds, elements of the sessions displayed, and most importantly, the crafts were made by the children.

The purpose of the exhibition was to raise awareness among the people about the existence of sex workers’ children and to showcase the children’s lifestyle, talent, creativity and passion, not only to make visitors rethink about the fulfilment of their basic rights but also to inspire the children in pursuing their own passion.

To note, Project Pothchoia started its journey in July, 2014, with an objective to work effectively upon the mental growth of the children of sex-workers to help them grow up as strong, independent individuals. More information can be found by visiting www.pothchola.org
