As part of its election campaign, the Opposition alliance—the Jatiya Oikyafront—will hold a road march towards Mymensingh today (Saturday), seeking votes for the ‘sheaf of paddy’, the poll symbol of the alliance candidates. Top Oikyafront leader, Dr Kamal Hossain, will lead the road march, which will begin from Tongi at 2pm, confirmed the BNP chairperson’s media wing officer, Shairul Kabir Khan.

He said senior Oikyafront leaders, including BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, will join the road march. It will begin in front of the Shafiuddin Academy in Tongi. The central leaders of the Oikyafront will address street rallies on their way to Mymensingh in favour of the alliance candidates.

The chief of the Jatiya Oikyafront’s media wing, Dr Mehedi Masud, said the first street rally would be held at Joydebpur in Gazipur. The leaders would also address street rallies at different places, including Trishal, on their way to Mymensingh, he added. He said the Oikyafront would determine its next course of action after releasing its poll manifesto from Hotel Purbani at 11am on Monday. Earlier, at a press conference, Nagorik Oikya convenor Mahmudur Rahman Manna said they have decided to hold a road march to Mymensingh on Saturday. He said the Oikyafront will also bring out a Victory Day rally on December 16 to mark the Victory Day.

Top Oikyafront leaders—Dr Kamal Hossain, ASM Abdur Rab, Nazrul Islam Khan, Subrata Chowdhury, Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury and others—were present at the press conference. Earlier, the Jatiya Oikyafront formally kicked off the electioneering from Sylhet after visiting the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal and Hazrat Shah Poran and Bangabir General Muhammad Ataul Gani Osmani on Wednesday.
