AL to fulfill youth expectations

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said her government wants to fulfill the expectations of the young generation about future Bangladesh if it is voted to power again through the upcoming general election. "We want to fulfill the expectations of our young generation and new voters about Bangladesh," she said while addressing a public rally in Bandarban through videoconferencing from her residence Sudha Sadhan in the capital.

Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League president, addressed another public rally in Kishoreganj also through videoconferencing from the same place.

Speaking at the Bandarban rally, the Prime Minister said her party has a commitment to build a bright future for the young generation and it gave importance to creating job opportunities for them.

"I'm truly very optimistic that our young generation is very talented. They're going forward. They're acquiring knowledge through science and technology," she said, adding that she talked to the youth recently to know about their views and expectations.

About the CHT Peace Accord signed in 1997, Hasina said a 'suicidal conflict' had started unfortunately after the killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975, which continued for some 20 years. "We don't want any conflict, we want peace," she said.

Noting that Bangladesh is now a digital country, she said the mobile network had not been installed in the Chattogram

Hill Tracks region in the past, but her government brought the hilly areas under the mobile network coverage. “Now, every person of the CHT region has mobile phone in his/her hand,”she said.

Seeking votes for Awami League’s electoral symbol ‘Boat’, Hasina said when Awami League forms the government with people’s mandate, the country sees huge development and the people get the benefits of this development.

Listing various development activities taken by her government for the CHT region, she said it is bringing the hilly districts under the electricity coverage through solar power.

The Prime Minister said the CHT is not only a naturally rich region, but also abundant with natural resources. “We’ll build the CHT as a developed region,” she added.

Noting that Bandarban is an excellent land of natural beauty, she said it will be made a role model for development and tourism.

Awami League candidate for Bandarban constituency Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing and two young voters also spoke at the rally from the Bandarban part.

Addressing the Kishoreganj rally, the Prime Minister said her government’s goal is to reach the benefits of the independence to every doorstep and improve the living standard of every citizen. “The Father of the Nation brought us the independence. Now, our goal is to reach the benefits of the independence to every doorstep and improve the lifestyle of every citizen.”

She also said her government worked for the development of the people. “Now, the people have got the benefit of this development.”

Mentioning that Kishoreganj was once a neglected area, Sheikh Hasina said, “We want to utilise the resources of haor areas. We’re taking massive programmes to utilise the resources.”

Describing her government’s development activities for Kishoreganj, she said 10 of the upazilas of the district have already come under the electricity coverage while the rest three will be brought under the electricity network soon.

The Prime Minister directed her party’s local leaders and activists to work unitedly for ensuring victory of AL’s five candidates and the Grand Alliance’s one contender in Kishoreganj district.

The AL president also asked them to work together and seek votes for AL candidate for Kishoreganj-1 and Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam as he is now sick and receiving treatment abroad.

Ashraful Islam’s brother Syed Monjurul Islam, AL candidate for Kishoreganj-2 former IGP Nur Mohammad, AL-led Grand Alliance contender for Kishoreganj-3 Mujibul Haque Chunnu, AL contestant for Kishoreganj-5 Afazal Hossain and AL Kishoreganj district unit president and secretary, among others, spoke on the occasion in the Kishoreganj part.
