An evening with Mala and The Band at EMK today

Edward M Kennedy Center (EMK) in Dhaka is organising a musical evening with Mala and The Band at its premises in the capital’s Dhanmondi area today.

Mala is a rising star in the Bangladesh music industry who deeply connects with Folk and Pop songs. She and her band will try to dazzle the audience with her renditions of the classics.

Mala’s first album was released in November 2011 and her music has already reached the hearts of Bangladeshis nationwide.

Before her ascent to fame, her love for singing began in childhood.

She studied at Viqarunnisa Noon School & College. Her mother was a singer and kindled Mala’s passion for music. The whole family would often sing together, making this an ideal environment for a building a young singer. After completing her studies, she left Bangladesh for Auckland, New Zealand, and is now currently living and performing in Melbourne Australia. She performs widely, from cultural evenings to charity events, from intimate performance venues to festival stages.

Mala’s talent caught the attention of renowned Bangladeshi musician and producer Fuad Almuqtadir, who produced her first album, which has reached extensive radio play in Bangladesh. Mala is constantly refining her musical talent, and always looks to build her musical legacy. In 2013, she received the award for Best Female Singer in the popular choice category of the Citycell Channel i awards.

Her second album is a collaboration with one of the most talented composers and singers in Bangladesh with the name of Shayan Chowdhury Arnob. The album is called ‘Eki Ajob Karkhana’ and features nine folk songs, arranged and produced with the help of Australian guitarist James Hodson. From the album ‘E ki Ajob Karkhana’, music video ‘Jaat Gelo’ got the MTV chart attack award in 2014.
