A Dhaka court on Thursday placed Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu, former assistant personal secretary to BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and BNP candidate for Shariatpur-3 constituency in December-30 election, on a five-day remand in a case filed over the recovery of Tk 8 crore from Motijheel, UNB reports.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sarafuzzaman Ansari passed the order after Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Inspector Ashraful Islam, also the investigation officer of the case, produced Apu before his court seeking a 10-day remand, said General Recording Officer of the court sub-inspector Jalal Uddin.

Earlier on January 4, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members arrested Mia Nuruddin Apu from the city's United Hospital over the money recovery before the national election.

The money was meant for distributing among voters to influence the national election, Rab had claimed.

During the recovery, Rab Director General Benazir Ahmed had said Tk 150 crore was distributed across the country in the last two months. Of the amount, Apu was given around Tk 3.6 crore, he had said.

The Rab-2 filed a case with Motijheel Police Station over the money recovery.
