Ducsu election on Mar 11

The elections to Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) and its hall unions for 25 posts will be held on March 11, reports UNB.

Chief Returning Officer Prof Mahfuzur Rahman announced the election schedule at 10:40 am at Nawab Nabab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on Monday.

The voting will continue from 8 am to 2pm inside residential halls of the university.

The daft list of voters will be announced today while the final one on February 20, Mahfuzur Rahman said.

The distribution of nomination papers will begin on February 19 and continue till February 25, while the last date for the submission of nomination papers is February 26.

The withdrawal for candidature is March 2 while the final candidate list will be published on March 3, while the supplementary voter list on March 5.

The last election to Ducsu was held on July 6, 1990.  In the last 28 years, the Dhaka University students could not cast their votes for selecting their representatives as the election process remained closed for all those years.

On January 17, 2018 the High Court ordered the Dhaka University authorities to take steps to organise Ducsu elections in six months’ time.

On January 6, the Supreme Court vacated its earlier order that stayed a High court order asking the Dhaka University authorities to take necessary steps within the next six months to hold the Ducsu election.

On November 1, 2018, the DU authorities published the draft voter list for the elections.
