Bangladesh cricketers  flee from NZ shooting

The Bangladesh cricket team were reportedly at the Christchurch mosque in New Zealand where an unidentified gunman opened fire on Friday morning. A Bangladesh reporter posted a video of the Bangladeshi cricket team escaping the mosque through Hagley Park.

All the members are safe.

A gunman opened fire in a mosque in New Zealand on Friday and there were several casualties, media reported, after police deployed armed officers in response to shots fired in the centre of Christchurch city. Media reported that a gunman opened fire inside mosque in Christchurch's Hagley Park.

Several casualties are feared, as authorities are yet to confirm the exact figure of deceased or wounded.

Bangladesh batsman Tamim Iqbal Khan tweeted about their escape and termed it a "frightening experience". He said, "Entire team got saved from active shooters!!! Frightening experience and please keep us in your prayers #christchurchMosqueAttack.

"Bangladeshi cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim said, "Alhamdulillah Allah save us today while shooting in Christchurch in the mosque...we r extremely lucky...never want to see this things happen again....pray for us.""Just escaped active shooters!!! Heartbeats pumping badly and panic everywhere!!" Shrinivas tweeted.

Mario Villavarayen, conditioning coach of the Bangladesh team, said that the players are shaken up but fine.

He said, "The players are shaken up but fine. I spoke to one of them shortly after [the New Zealand mosque shooting]. They didn't see anything but heard gunshots. They were at the ground and just started running."

The Bangladesh cricket team is in Christchurch to play New Zealand in a third cricket test starting on Saturday.

Radio New Zealand quoted a witness inside the mosque saying he heard shots fired and at least four people were lying on the ground and "there was blood everywhere". "Horrified to hear of Christchurch mosque shootings. There is never a justification for that sort of hatred," said Amy Adams, a member of parliament from Christchurch.
