Bangladesh women national team will face  hosts Nepal today in a bid to clinch the top spot of Group B when they will play their second match in the SAFF Women’s Championship football at Rangasala Stadium, Biratnagar.

Bangladesh, who expected to confirm their group championship with better margin victory in the first match against Bhutan when they needed at least 4-0 victory but could manage 2-0, when Nepal defeated Bhutan by 3-0.

Ultimately, after failing to make it certain the group championship it appeared to Bangladesh a big hurdle to cross to be the group top, as the champions of the Group B will take on the Group A runners up.

It would be the advantage for the group top when they could avoid the most favourites  and the holders India, who won the all four previous titles of the women’s football championship in the region.

According to message from Nepal, Golam Rabbani Choton the head coach of the team said after the practice session yesterday that though Bangladesh have already booked their semifinal berth but it would be another mach like a semifinal and they would try heart and soul to win.

“Our initial target have already been achieved, tomorrow (Today) the match will be the battle for group championship and before the semifinal match, the match against hosts Nepal will be a clash like a semifinal and our main object to be the group champions,” said Choton.

“Nepal are one of the favourites in this competition, I hope our girls will try with their best and it will be a very good match.”

Team’s captain Sabina Khatun, who scored one goal in 2-0 victory over Bhutan said, “Our first target to move into the semifinal defeating Bhutan, we did it successfully. Nepal are strong sides but we will try our best to win the match.”

Sabina, who thinks that despite they a bit behind in terms of experiences than their Nepal counterpart but there is not huge difference in potency – “Yes, we are a young team and a bit less experienced than Nepal but I think in terms of team’s strength, we not far behind.

The match will be very competitive.”
