Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) will stage world famous play ‘Hamlet’ today at 7pm at National Theatre Hall of BSA in Segun Bagicha of the capital. The play ‘Hamlet’, originally written by William Shakespeare sometime between 1599 and 1602, has been translated and adapted by late noted playwright Syed Shamsul Haq and directed by eminent director Ataur Rahman.

‘Hamlet’ is a play that undertakes a profound exploration of moral dilemmas; it is also audacious and comic-tragedy with the themes of murder, distrust, clandestine affairs, palace-conspiracy and revenge.

Set in the Kingdom of Denmark, the play dramatises the revenge Prince Hamlet is instructed to enact on his uncle Claudius. Claudius had murdered his own brother, Hamlet’s father, King Hamlet, and subsequently seized the throne, marrying his deceased brother’s widow, Hamlet’s mother Gertrude.

The production gets a new dimension as poems and songs by Rabindranath Tagore, Jibanananda Das and Syed Shamsul Haq have been incorporated with interference of light comedy of traditional jatrapala.

To note, the play was premiered at the National Theatre Hall of BSA last year as part of the yearlong celebration of William Shakespeare.

Tickets will be available in front of the hall before the show. Interested audience can contact 01720172426 or 01733892961 for advance ticket. Where: BSA, Segun Bagicha

When: 7pm, today
