Bashundhara Kings finished on top after the first leg of the Bangladesh Premier League when they grabbed a comfortable 3-0 win over Chittagong Abahani Limited in their last match of the first leg yesterday.

Held at the Sheikh Kamal Stadium in Nilphamari the league leaders after winning the match completed the first phase being unbeaten with 11 wins and one draw from 12 outings when they amassed 34 points, three points clear from the closer contenders reigning champions Abahani Limited who won 10 matches and suffered two defeats.

On the other hands, Chittagong Abahani attempting to be among the title contenders finished the first leg on seventh position, as despite after making a winning start, drew the next two matches and finally finished the first leg with managing only three wins, five draws and suffered four defeats to collect 13 points.

The newcomers Bashundhara Kings who left behind all the contenders keeping up the momentum, played the last match of the first leg in style when their three overseas booters scored all three goals on the day.

The favourites and stubborn at their home ground, Bashundhara saw some difficult times in the opening 45 minutes, as they had to wait for injury time to take lead.

The match was onset with offensive approach when both sides looked enthusiastic to take the match control and though Bashundhara kings had better domination could open scoring change very rare.

After a long 45 minutes was goalless, Bakhtiyar, the Kyrgyz midfielder break the deadlock in the stoppage time with a cool finish when Colindres, the World Cup booter of Costa Rica paved the way for Bakhtiyar, who just sent the ball into far post with a low shot (1-0).

The second half was also started with some paces and Bashundhara pressed harder and despite going closer to increase the lead at the early stage, Matin Meah and Marcos Vinicius failed to mark the target from inside the box while it also took 28 minutes to double the advantage.

Colindres, who actually has been doing the job as playmaker and also scored goals, just proved his potential as a World Cupper when the Costa Rican fired home after receiving a ball from Matin Meah on 78th (2-0).

Marcos Vinicius, who was giving missing trial found the net on 84th minute when he finished in style with a superb volley on a floating ball from Matin Meah from the right side (3-0).

In the day’s other match at the Shaheed Bulu Stadium, Noakhali, NoFeL Sporting Club forced the Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club to share points after a goalless draw.

After the draw the former three times league champions Sheikh Jamal concluded their first leg on eighth position with three wins, four draws and suffered as many defeat.
