Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited Sheikh Selim's residence yesterday to pay her condolence over the death of the latter’s grandson Zayan Chowdhury, who was killed in a bomb attack in Sri Lanka. Zayan was laid to rest at Banani graveyard after his namaz-e-janaza at Banani Chairmanbari field after Asr prayers.

The eight-year-old was buried around 5:45pm, said Md Imrul, personal secretary to Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim.

Zayan’s grandfather and several senior AL leaders were present at the janaza. A Sri Lankan Airlines flight carrying Zayan’s body landed at Dhaka airport around 12:45pm. Selim and Sheikh Helal Uddin received the body there. From there, Zayan's body reached Selim's residence around 1:30pm.

Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim is a paternal cousin to premier Sheikh Hasina. Zayan, a class II student of an Uttara school, was the son of Selim’s daughter Sheikh Sonia and Moshiul Haque Chowdhary. Moshiul and his wife went to Sri Lanka on holidays with two of their children. His wife and younger son were in their hotel room during the blast. that critically injured Selim’s son-in-law Moshiul.

Family sources said, Moshiul’s condition was improving. He is being treated at a hospital in Colombo. Splinters from the blast had hit Moshiul’s kidney and liver, and some of them were still in his body.

Selim, a former AL minister, told reporters that doctors said it would take at least two more weeks before Mashul could be shifted from the hospital.

The death toll in the Sri Lanka blasts, the first major attack on the Indian Ocean island since the end of a civil war 10 years ago, has hit 359 and scores with injuries are currently being treated at different hospitals.
