Mahfuzur Rahman Rabbi’s all-round performance was complemented by Mofizul Islam Robin (69) and Aich Mollah (52) powered Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) U-16 cricket team to triumph the second match by 17 runs against Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) U-16 Cricket Team at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna yesterday and clinched the one-day series with a match to spare.

The third and last match of the three-match one-day series will be played at the same venue on May 15.

The BCB U-16 team took the lead by winning the opener of the one-day series with 89 runs at the same venue on May 11. Earlier the local side clinched the youth Test (three-day match) 1-0.

Despite Sameer Saqib’s 55, visiting PCB U-16 cricket team managed to muster 242 for nine in their stipulated 50 overs in response to BCB U-16 cricket team’s 259-7.

Opted to bat, BCB U-16 compiled 259 for seven in 50 overs largely thanks to half centuries from Mofizul Islam Robin (69) and Aich Mollah (52).

Mahfuzur Rahman Rabbi (44 not out), Rihad Khan (32) and Sakib Shahriar (24) were the other contributors to the BCB’s fighting total.

Aseer Mughal and Aaliyan Mehmood of PCB evenly shared four wickets between them.

PCB in reply lost only three wickets for 135 in 31.4 overs.

They then witnessed a mini-collapse as they mislaid four wickets in the space of only seven runs while they were stuttering at 200-7 in 43.4 overs.

Since then, they were able to score 42 runs off 38 balls and sustained a 17-run defeat.

Mahfuzur Rahman Rabbi grabbed three wickets and Ashiqur Rahman claimed two wickets for the home side. Later Rabbi was named player of the match for his all-round display.
