Boro paddy procurement drive begins

The procurement drive of Boro paddy and rice began in Boda upazila of the district yesterday amid much enthusiasm.

Official sources said the government has set up a target to purchase a total of 1,183 tonnes of paddy from the farmers directly of the district during the current season.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Sayed Mahamud Hasan formally inaugurated the procurement drive at Munnapara village under  Boda upazila of the district.   

Speaking at the function, the UNO said the procurement drive of Boro paddy was launched in the district following the instructions of the government to ensure fair prices of paddy.

The drive programmes will continue till August 30, he added.

Under the drive, the farmers will get the opportunity to sell their Boro paddy directly to the purchasing centres at the rate of Tk 26 per kg while the rice millers will get the chance to sell their improved quality rice in the purchasing centres at the rate of Tk 36 per kg, he added.
